Editorial Vacancies

Part- and Full-Time

We are an English language support service for authors in all academic and scientific fields, including engineering, medicine, physical and biological sciences, social sciences, economics, law, management and the humanities. We offer editorial vacancies to candidates with knowledge and experience.

Vacancy Description

Remote – Part-Time or Full-Time Position

We currently have editorial vacancies available for experienced editors to edit scholarly articles submitted to academic and scientific journals.

We offer editorial vacancies that are perfectly suited to many academics and scientists who find themselves underemployed or underfunded. All of our editors work remotely, usually from home, editing electronic documents on their own computers, and they also set their own hours, so these positions are extremely flexible. Our editing vacancies provide an excellent opportunity for retired scholars who wish to stay active and informed in their fields of interest, for parents who are busy with childcare tasks but not too busy to read and edit new scholarship, and for teachers and researchers who are employed part time and need to supplement their income.

Remuneration

The rates of pay start at £6 ($8.50 USD) per 1,000 words, and a FREE editing course is provided.

All transactions between PRS and editors are carried out electronically via email: PRS sends the editor an article (usually in Microsoft Word) via email, and the editor returns the edited version in the same manner within a set amount of time.

Qualifications

All successful candidates for our editorial vacancies must be native speakers of English. Since many of our clients do not speak English as their first language, they trust us to make sure their English writing is clear, precise and of a professional scholarly standard whenever they wish or need to publish and disseminate their research in English. Exceptional proficiency in the rules and structures of the language ensure that our editors are able to make appropriate corrections and adjustments for our clients.

Only applicants who hold at least a master’s degree should apply for these editorial vacancies, and we are always happy to increase the number of PhDs working on our team. Our editors must have a thorough understanding of the techniques and formats used in a variety of academic and scientific documentation styles such as APA, Chicago and Vancouver referencing. They should also be familiar with the writing styles and structural standards commonly used in research documents within their fields of study. Experience in teaching and examining students is an additional asset.

Most of our clients send us their writing as electronic Word documents, so candidates for our editorial vacancies must be able to work efficiently in Microsoft Word. In particular, they will need to use the Track Changes and Comment functions to record the corrections and other adjustments they make and to communicate with authors about these changes. Experience with LaTeX may also be useful, as a few of our clients use this program.

Perfectionism and careful attention to detail are never out of place when performing editorial vacancies, so we seek and promote these qualities in our editors. We also insist that our editors demonstrate the utmost respect for our clients and their writing and that they understand the need for confidentiality when reading unpublished research. Finally, meeting deadlines is as important to us as it is to our clients, so the organisational skills that enable this are vital.
